Glad you liked the presentation. I'll be visiting Carnegie next week,
but won't actually migrate until September. Let's try to get together
at the beginning of the summer.
I haven't heard of the Koppelman notes you're referring to. I'd
greatly appreciate a copy (or a pointer where to find them); the
quantity of good material on that subject is surprisingly small.
The Gian-Carlo Rota project sounds like an ideal task for me at the
present time. A final draft of my thesis should be ready by 1 July,
and after that I'll have plenty of "writing" time free. Please speak
to his committee for me.
Let me express my thanks for the SUMEX facility. Part of my success
depended on the large quantities of available cpu time, the excellent
up-time record, the helpful systems people. There is no comparison
between SUMEX and SAIL (where even text editing can't be done because
of the absurd system load, where the down-time is typically several
hours each day). You should be very proud of your system.
